WARRENDALE, Pa. (Oct. XX, 2014) – Continuing a tradition that now is more than 80 years old, SAE International announced that its signature automotive technical engineering event, the SAE World Congress, will be held in Detroit at least through 2020.

“This decision represents the tremendous partnership that we have enjoyed over the years not only with Detroit city officials, but also the professionals at Cobo Center and the many outstanding hotels in the city,” Andrew Smart, Director of Society Programs and Industry Relations for SAE International, said. “Downtown Detroit is undergoing a tremendous revitalization and we look forward to continuing our partnership for many years to come.”

The three-day event uses 6,000 hotel room nights each year. Under the new agreement, the Marriott Renaissance Center will remain as the headquarters hotel.

“We are extremely pleased that SAE International has committed to a five-year run of their World Congress in Cobo Center,” said Thom Connors, SMG regional vice president and general manager of Cobo Center. “This event is a big part of Cobo’s history, and now, is an integral part of the comeback too.”

The SAE World Congress is one of three technical congresses held by SAE International. The other two include the SAE AeroTech Congress & Exhibition and the SAE Commercial Vehicle Engineering Congress. Annually, SAE International organizes and/or administers more than 25 international meetings and exhibitions each year covering all aspects of technology related to design, manufacture, and service lifecycle for automotive, aerospace, on and off-highway commercial vehicles, and other related mobility industries.
